Mesoamerica Energy is a company dedicated to the development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects in Central America and adjacent region.

The company was founded by the Mesoamerica Group as a private equity vehicle for investing in renewable energy projects.  The Mesoamerica Group is a leading financial services firm in Central America, with regional expertise in mergers & acquisitions advisory work, strategic consulting and private equity management. The investors in Mesoamerica Energy are well established regional business groups who have joined with Mesoamerica to pursue opportunities in the regional energy sector.

In 2004, Mesoamerica Energy completed its first transaction with the successful acquisition of a 23MW operating wind farm in Costa Rica, Plantas Eólicas SRL (PESRL).  Since then, the development team at Mesoamerica Energy evaluated several thousand MWs of potential projects, and currently has several hundred MWs at various stages of active development.

In January, 2010, a majority stake in Mesoamerica Energy was acquired by Globeleq Generation Limited, an experienced operating power company, actively developing energy solutions for the emerging markets of Africa, the Americas and Asia. Globeleq develops economically sustainable projects that support the continued development of the electric power sector in these regions.
