VisionMesoamerica Energy envisions becoming one of the major regional players in the energy sector. To achieve this goal, the company plans to invest up to $200 million of equity, primarily in renewable energy projects in Central America and adjacent countries. This effort will yield several hundred megawatts of clean energy, to satisfy the growing demand for electricity in the region while contributing to the environment and to local economies.
The company's strategy focuses on greenfield development opportunities, but will pursue the acquisition of operating and development projects as the opportunities present themselves.
Greenfield: Significant value is created during the development stage of an energy project if the project is well structured and risks are properly identified and mitigated. Given this fundamental philosophy, Mesoamerica Energy has assembled a team of professionals with the experience to identify opportunities in the early stages of development and guide them through to construction and operation.
Acquisition: Corporate strategies are constantly evolving, which gives rise to asset turnover in the energy sector in the region. After a decade of asset privatizations and independent power project development in Central America , there are many generation assets in the hands of private sector investors. Mesoamerica Energy is both proactive and reactive in seeking opportunities to acquire existing assets in the region.
