Cerro de Hula, Honduras

Cerro de Hula: In May of 2005, Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy acquired the development rights to a 60MW wind project from Enron Wind, and has since expanded the development to 102MW. The project is located in Honduras, in the municipalities of Santa Ana and San Buenaventura, 20km south of Tegucigalpa. The wind resource at the site is well measured (9 years of wind data) and the company has all of the required development permits. Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy, through its subsidiary, Energía Eólica de Honduras, S.A. (EEHSA) executed a PPA for 100MW with ENEE on October 1st, 2008, and reached financial closing in November 2010. A consortium made up of Gamesa and Iberdrola Ingeniería y Construcción was awarded the turnkey construction and turbine supply contract. Construction began in December 2010, and commercial operation commenced in December 2011. The park was officially inaugurated on February 22, 2012.

Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy is backed by Globeleq Generation Ltd. and by prominent Central American families / individuals, including investors from the banking, airlines, cement, agribusiness, industrial and services sectors. There is no need for additional equity for the project.

Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy was created by Mesoamerica Investments (www.mesoamerica.com), a regional leader in investment banking services including M&A Advisory, Strategy Consulting and Private Equity practices. A majority stake was purchased in 2010 by Globeleq Generation Ltd., an experienced operating power company, actively developing energy solutions for the emerging markets of Africa, the Americas and Asia. 

Experience

Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy owns and operates a 23 MW wind generation facility in Costa Rica that has been in operation since 1996 (PESRL).  PESRL has been operating with capacity factors above 40%, and maintaining availability above 95% under one of the most aggressive wind regimes in the world.

Members of the management team have participated in the construction and installation of over 600 MW and 2,500 wind turbines in more than six countries. The financial experience of the team includes more than $3 billion in capital / debt raising for energy projects, $750 million of which were debt transactions in Latin America.
